January 12 is National Vision Board Day. And I have created mine… well, updated, really. It’s the right time to do it because January 1st is usually when goals are thought about and set. A new year = a new me….
But before I get carried away… you may be wondering what a vision board is!
A vision board is a visual reminder that you create, using pictures or words to represent experiences, feelings and possessions you want to attract. The more specific your visualization, the better. It gives you clarity. And most importantly, you put it in a place that you can see every day.
Why? Because visualization is key to achieving your Dreams, your Goals and your Ideal Life. It stimulates emotions that fuel the Law of Attraction.
The Law of Attraction is basically this… we have the ability to attract into our lives, whatever we focus on. So, if you focus on positive thoughts and the goals you want to achieve, you WILL find a way to make it happen!
In order to create a vision board, you have to visualize what you want. Of course, if you are like me, you often think about about where you wish you already were in life.
For me, these things include: having enough money, being able to help my family, being able to vacation, making a little bit of time for ME, having time to spend with my kids, having patience on those really hard days!
I also want to get to the healthy version of me, work a job from home that I love, and be able to buy a couple of little things… like a BMW X5, or a BMW M5… day
Oh, and guess I should mention my dream house, with rooms for all the kids, my own office, a big kitchen and a vacation-like backyard for playing and entertaining in!!
Once you have visualized where you want to be, then the fun part begins. Find pictures that represent your dreams or goals.
You could cut out pictures from magazines, or print them from the internet in order to make a collage. It is important to be selective in your choices because a vision board should be neat and simple.
There are many apps you could use, but one of the easiest is probably, Pinterest. Click here to see my Vision Board.
Or my personal favorite, save digital pictures and create a collage or a slideshow. I save my pictures to my Vision Board album on my phone.
This is the 2018 collage I made using Microsoft Publisher. I saved different pictures including those of my family, to remind me of my goals, motivational quotes and my Why!
For 2019, I updated my pictures to better reflect my goals and to add motivational quotes for inspiration and to reinforce some of my affirmations. I love this one especially:
But instead of printing it out and adding it to my calendar, I decided to make them visible to me throughout the day, using technology!
Once you create your collage, or your collection, you need to make it easy to see so you can visualize your dreams and goals before you go to bed and one of the first things you do in the morning.
This can be a printed collage on your nightstand or hanging on the fridge. It could be a screen saver on your phone or computer… The idea is to keep your attention on your intentions.
I have an Apple watch, so I took some of the images from my Vision Board album on my iPhone and made them into a watch face album! Then my watch face changes the picture whenever I look at it.
And since I use a computer for work, I took those pictures and made a folder that the computer uses for a slide show on my desktop. Every 5 min, the picture changes. Except on the computer, I also added some of my favorite pictures of my family, like this one here!
Once you have a good visualization of where you want to be, you can set your goals that will help make realities of your Vision Board!
I have my list of goals written down that I plan to review at least 2-3 times a week. But I also have my Vision Board available in different ways to keep me motivated and moving towards the life I want!
Just keep in mind that as you achieve your goals and your vision board starts to become a reality, you should still leave the pictures there.
Remembering that you deliberately and consciously attracted your dreams to you tells you that it works! Acknowledge and be grateful of the process!
And every year, as you review and update your vision board, you should save the last one so you can see your progress!
Now you have seen mine… Time to make yours and share them with me! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
